Miracle of the Day
I have come to see life as a constant stream of miracles. Not that these miracles are Jesus walking on water, or a paraplegic walking unassisted after someone slaps them on their head declaring, "You are heeaaalllld." No these miracles are more subtle, but just as potent. Especially if you add them all up.
I was inspired by a post by Elizabeth Gilbert, famed author to "Eat, Pray, Love" where she talked about the idea of a happiness jar. She shared a picture of her king sized jar filled with daily (365 to be exact) examples of things that brought her joy each day. She said this practice helped her see at the end of the year how fantastically joyful her life was. It is a powerful reminder that even when we feel like our lives suck, there are 365 examples that it was good.
I decided to try this practice, but instead call it my "Miracle of the Day Box." In it I plan on putting the miracles that have occurred in my life everyday for the next year. Today was day one, and already I've seen signs that this was a good idea (aka my first miracle). I first started cutting out pictures and quotes out of magazines so I can decorate my Miracle of the Day Box. I do a vision board at the start of every year, so I already had lot of magazines on hand.
The first magazine I grabbed was The Oprah Magazine. It's loaded with positive quotes, words and pictures. Opera has even advocated for vision boards herself, so I can't help but think when she publishes her magazine she hopes it will be cut up and placed artistically on a white board. As I started my way through the magazine, I quickly ran into an article called "Moments of Grace" which was about different peoples experiences with serendipity. Isn't that what I'm doing??
What I love about this idea is it's a reminder that there is so much more help out there then we know. In fact the more miracles we see, the more they show up. When we drop our cynicism about the world, more magic sprinkles into our lives. Soon enough your hooked on this belief that life is magical and our lives start to seem limitless. I know for me I have seen so many signs that provide proof that my life is guided. And now I'm going to prove this over the next year.
So join me in this miracle a day practice. You too have a spiritual army ready to show you how fantastic your life is. Trust me, they love to bring us joy. But just beware- life is easier then it appears. One miracle at a time.
