You Are Guided
One of my all time favorite movies is Under the Tuscan Sun. I admit, it rings home a bit for me.. a woman recently divorced trying to find herself again (or find herself for the first time, really). I've watched this movie more times than I can count, because every time I do something else becomes apparent to me that I didn't notice the times before. But the one thing that sticks out to me again and again and makes my heart sing, is that it's so important to sometimes take that leap of faith, even if you think its crazy!
One of the best lines from the movie (for those of you who have seen the movie it is in the town of Tuscany and she sees a sign for a villa for sale) is when she is telling another woman that buying a villa in Tuscany was a terrible idea. The beautiful blond woman responded.."Don't you just love terrible ideas?" I've come to see the beauty in this line. In fact, I often see quoted from Alice in Wonderland when the Queen told Alice that she "comes up with at least 10 impossible ideas before breakfast." What this means to me is that taking a chance, even if it seems crazy, is where the real treasures are. It's often the ego that holds us back and keeps us from trying impossible things.
But what is the harm in trying? I think the idea of failure is so strong in most of us, I can see why so few people take the plunge and try something that seems impossible. But what if....
I have come to trust these whims of mine. Not that I've gone as far as go to Tuscany to buy a villa (but I would if I was guided there!), but I did decided to train as a Soul Coach on one of these "crazy" whims and I have been reaping the benefits since. Let me tell you the story.
First off, my vision went bad (I had inflammation in my eyes and couldn't see very well). The only treatment was steroids and was not going to be a quick fix. In the mean time, I couldn't read my books, which are my life line! Someone suggested that I get a Kindle because I could increase the font. So I did, and found myself downloading books on a whim, often with the general search "how to find happiness." This lead me to Denise Linn's book "The Soul Loves the Truth." I can't tell you why this book effected me more than others, but when I read it, I just KNEW I had to meet her (and strive to be just like her!). So I looked on her website and saw her class for Soul Coaching. I knew very little about it. I just KNEW that I needed to go. Lucky for me (or really it was what I was meant to do), I got the last spot!
Once I made that decision, that morning I went to the gym, high as a kite with excitement, and as I was walking up the stairs I looked outside and there was a full rainbow across the sky! This was in January in Portland, a very rare occurence indeed! I couldn't believe my eyes! Then I got on the treadmill and while looking at the rainbow I couldn't help but feel gratitude for such a beautiful sign. Next thing I know, right when I was thanking God for this gift, the rainbow faded away and came back. It was almost as if it was winking at me!
After that I can't even tell you all of the synchronicities that occurred in my life. I started writing them down, it was that crazy!
So the next time something seems a little (or a lot) crazy, yet you feel a pull to do it, DO IT! What do you have to loose? At the very least you'll have a great story. But I really believe that you are being guided to what you are meant to do. So trust, stay open and be a little crazy!
